Hits, Charlotte's, and Stay
Movable Type (the blog software I use to run this site) has upgraded their software to version 3.2. I'm unsure as whether I want to upgrade this blog. There are numerous advantages of course, and I've already done an upgrade for another blog that I manage, and it went without a hitch. Upgrades include better entry management, more control over spam and commenting, and a couple of other improvements that I haven't read about in depth yet.
On top of that, I've allowed this site to get linked from a couple of blog sites, which include technorati, blo.gs, and weblogs.com. I have no idea what this will do for hit counts and trackbacks from other blogs, so we'll see what happens. To give you an idea, this site receives an average of about 160 hits per day, with about 31 of those being return visitors. It's definitely on the small side, which is fine by me! So far this year, I've received around 50,000 hits, starting mid January, when I started tracking them.
Second week on Charlotte's Web. Things are going smoothly, with this week being fairly routine, with the first of my film shots due. Unlike the other shows I've worked on with short, extremely complex shots, this film is more about finishing a ton of shots. As such, there are way more simple (and long!) shots, a couple complex ones, but nothing as deep and hard as some of the shots I did on Matrix or Constantine. Now that we are exclusively using Shake 4, a couple of the macros I created during the beta period have been incorporated into our pipeline.
I saw the film Stay over the weekend. I had no idea what it was about, which, I guess, is good. It was similar to Jacob's Ladder, which is an amazing thriller. Unfortunately I don't think that Stay pulled off the thrill the same as Jacob's Ladder. There were some great visual effects work, supervised by Kevin Tod Haug, one of the supervisors I worked intimately with up in Vancouver on a small project titled A Wrinkle In Time. I haven't seen it though, was it any good? I heard it was crap. A good pal of mine was part of the vfx production crew, hope it was a good project Chris! Drop me a line.
I spent Sunday out on the paintball field with a bunch of friends. A great group of guys (and one girl!). We played much shorter than usual, from about 10:30am to 1pm. It was an awesome time, and I didn't suck as much as I usually do. It probably is all the daily biking I'm doing now, which enabled me to dart from bunker to bunker, and not getting too fatigued. I'm feeling it today, however! Expended 2000+ rounds in about two and a half hours. Much more than usual. I took some sweet video which I'll put up eventually. The games lasted between 30 seconds and five to ten minutes, depending on when I got hit, of course!
